Every year, East Wake hosts a Children’s Carnival where children ages 3-5 from local preschools visit the high school to participate in fun, educational games and activities.
Several booths from many different East Wake clubs and classes filled the auxillary gym to entertain the young visitors on May 5, 2017.
This year’s Hawaiian theme brought the fun of the beach to the event. From sand to sun, clubs and classes provided engaging activities such as the DECA bounce house, face painting masterpieces from the National Art Honor’s Society, and the Men of Excellence’s cup game. FFA sponsored a petting zoo including a horse, chickens, rabbits, and goats. The children were delighted to visit and pet the animals.
East Wake holds the carnival for a special purpose: to raise awareness for Child Abuse Prevention Month. From July 2015 to July 2016, there were close to 127,000 reports of child abuse in North Carolina. The students at East Wake High School want to help raise awareness for this important cause.
